Check Out My Latest Domino Pendants!

If you're looking for a fun way to add pizazz to your wardrobe, check out my newest domino pendants, now available through 2Rules Fine Art Gallery in Marietta!

Each pendant features an original acrylic painting on a vintage wooden domino.  ©2015 Lynn Edwards
The vintage dominoes I use to make these tiny treasures are made from real wood, not plastic. I create the little paintings and permanently bond them to the dominoes. Then the entire pendant is sealed with multiple coats of clear sealer followed by varnish.

Each pendant is suspended by an elegant Aanraku bail on silky soft, luxurious black cording. For extra strength, double split rings secure the lobster clasp and extender chain. (The chain allows the wearer to adjust the length from 24 to 26 inches.) The bail, clasp, split rings and chain are extra heavy silver plate to ensure the jewelry will keep its good looks for years.

I really enjoy making these wearable art pieces. The vintage dominoes are just like the dominoes I played with as a kid. (I guess that makes me vintage, too!) But instead of playing the game of dominoes, I used to build little structures with them.

A Most Enjoyable Evening

If you missed last night's Art Walk on Marietta's Square, you missed something wonderful. The weather was perfect for strolling outdoors and visiting all the art venues, with moderate temperatures, low humidity and rain-free skies. It was a gorgeous evening!

Art and artists were everywhere -- in the galleries, painting and sketching on the sidewalks, and conducting demos in shops and boutiques. Art lovers and the art-curious turned out in droves to meet them and view their work. It was truly gratifying to see so many people crowding into the shops and filling up the sidewalks, eager to take in everything from delicate watercolor landscapes to bold, large scale abstracts.

When I arrived at 2 Rules, the gallery that carries my Original Art pendants, a large crowd was already there. In fact, the place was jammed.

I met so many nice people last night. Among them were a number of international visitors, including a delightful lady from Columbia and a very enthusiastic group from France. As I anticipated, Stanford Ashcroft's razor blade painting demo attracted lots of interest. I watched him paint with it very deftly while marveling at his ability to produce a large portrait in a short amount of time. The fact that he still had all his fingers impressed me even more!

You'll have two more chances to participate in the Art Walks this year: on Sept. 5 and Oct. 3. After that, they won't resume until Spring. But there's always something art- and culture-related happening at the Square. (Check out calendar events here) With several galleries, the newly-opened Artists Attic, and so many shops and restaurants displaying and selling local artists' work, it's possible to immerse yourself in creative expression every single month of the year.

Until now my pendants and mini collage paintings have been available only through my Etsy shop, playingwithcolors. They will continue to be offered through Etsy, but if you would like to actually see, hold and -- in the case of the pendants -- try them on, I urge you to pay 2 Rules a visit. 2 Rules is now offering a large number of pieces in the pendant collection, ranging in size from 1x1 inch to bold statement pieces measuring 1 1/4 x 2 1/2 inches. Pictured below are just a few of my creations you'll find at 2Rules:

My own hand painted art papers and intriguing foreign "found" papers form the colorful design on this piece. A luxurious black silk necklace cord (not pictured) with lobster clasp and two-inch extender chain is included.                              © Lynn Edwards

This pendant was created using stamps I designed myself. After stamping onto the paper, I then hand embellished the design with different colors of permanent artist's inks. One of several mini-collage paintings now available at 2Rules. Displayed on its own wooden easel (included) it brightens a desk, shelf or tabletop using only a few inches of space. A mini-collage painting makes the perfect gift for that "person who has everything!"          © Lynn Edwards
All of my pendants and mini-collage paintings are created exclusively by me in my North Georgia studio. Each one is a completely original, one of a kind work of art that will never, ever be duplicated or reproduced. I invite you to go by 2 Rules and check them out. Browse all the beautiful items you'll find in the gallery. It's a feast for the senses, and a great place to discover artful finds you won't see anywhere else.

Check out Art-tiques!

A new showroom for art, gifts and antiques is now open in Marietta! The owners of Art-tiques are focusing on carrying work by local artists, so there's an interesting mix of fine art, jewelry, gift items, home decor, and other items in this spacious, gallery-like venue.

Art-tiques is easily accessible, located a block or so west of Interstate 75 at the intersection of the South Loop and Wylie Road. The entrance is on the side of the building facing the South Loop, with plenty of free parking.

Several artist friends of mine have work for sale at Art-tiques. They include beautiful abstract paintings by my longtime friend and painting buddy Kathy Woodworth; jewel-tone wraps, shrugs and fashion accessories
by fiber artist and former studio mate Dinah Rose; and scenes of everyday life and wildlife portraits painted by fellow art group member Karen Snider. I've featured some of their works below. You'll see many more, and have a grand time browsing, if you stop by Art-tiques!

Salvador Dali, I Love You

Wow! Saw the new studio this morning with its brand new all-white interior. It looks fantastic -- even brighter and more light filled than we had hoped. Our landlord's painters did a great job. I don't know how they managed to cover up that dark gray paint but they did. Thanks so much, guys!

After leaving our gleaming new studio I met up with my friends Pat and Sylvia for lunch and a little shopping. Pat, who's probably one of the savviest shoppers I've ever met, introduced us to a most amazing store. It's called Touch of Europe and believe me, it does not disappoint. Improbably located on the north side of Marietta's Roswell St. between the Big Chicken and the Loop, Touch of Europe has some of the most beautiful, unique, whimsical, elegant and delightful merchandise I've seen OTP.

Everything in the store has a European flair, from the home furnishings to entertainment accessories, bath and beauty products, gourmet foods, stationery, and gift items. So what has this got to do with art, you ask. Wandering around, I found all kinds of wonderful things that were art-oriented. If you're out on an Artist's Date, you'll find an abundance of inspiration here in the merchandise textures, colors and patterns alone. (Collage artists take note: if you use paper napkins in your work, you'll go bonkers in this place. Don't say I didn't warn you.)

Sensory overload aside, my favorite find was a wristwatch with Salvador Dali's grinning face peering out from under the crystal. Its crowning touch was its two Dali-esque hands: they were shaped like his famous outrageous moustache. Had I been a more selfish sort I'd have put aside the gifts I had just selected for family members and treated myself to a new watch on the spot. But being the pure-hearted soul that I am, I managed to resist the overwhelming temptation to acquire the Dali. (Where's this will power when it comes to ice cream???) Instead the watch went directly into first place on my own wish list. Maybe my hubby The Wizard will read this post before my birthday gets here. :)
